Lichen Planus (LP) is non-contagious, non-infectious, inflammatory skin disorder involving the skin and mucous membranes. The symptoms include shiny, flat-topped bumps that are purple or reddish-purple and can lead to severe itch. They may be seen anywhere on the body but seem to favor the inside of the wrists and ankles. The cause is unknown however medications treating high blood pressure, heart disease and arthritis can cause lichen planus-type rashes. The reaction goes away when the associated medication is discontinued and with treament most cases of LP go away within 1-2 years.
Treatment Options:
The causative drug is withdrawn. The rash is controlled using oral and topical medication. Antihistamines help in relieving itching symptoms.
