These are fingerlike, flesh-colored cylindrical projections arising from a narrow or broad base. Common locations include around the mouth, beard, eyes, hands and bottom of feet (plantar warts). These growths are caused by infection with human papillomavirus. Warts are contagious, but most people are not very susceptible to the wart virus. The wart virus is very weak, and the body does not fight it but instead spreads by growing more warts. Usually warts do not hurt however warts on the bottom of the feet (plantar warts), around nails (perinatal wart) or in the nose may be painful.
