Psoriasis is a common skin disorder characterized by thick scaly plaques that are often covered with silvery scales. Most often affects the scalp, elbows, knees, back and buttocks but may involve any part of the body. Psoriasis is not contagious however often runs in families. Certain factors may trigger an outbreak: emotional stress, alcohol consumption, recent streptococcal infection or certain medications.
